Csaba Kovács is a London-based arbitration lawyer and arbitrator. On the back of a broad arbitration practice in the past two decades, Csaba brings first-rate arbitration expertise and multifaceted industry knowledge gained in both civil and common law jurisdictions.
Csaba takes arbitral appointments in commercial and investment disputes in which the language of the arbitration is English, Spanish, Portuguese, Hungarian or Romanian. He has acted as co-arbitrator and sole arbitrator in commercial disputes in the energy and aviation sectors.
As arbitration counsel at CMS, Csaba has represented private investors, companies, States and State entities in a wide range of commercial and investor-State disputes, including in the fields of energy, mining, construction, banking, telecommunications, and commercial property. He has experience in complex, high-value international disputes under the rules of ICSID, ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL and SCC. As a former transaction lawyer, Csaba advised private equity investors, banks, and development finance institutions on major loan and equity transactions in Central and Eastern Europe. He is trained and qualified in both civil and common law jurisdictions. He is admitted to practice as Solicitor in England & Wales (2009) and Avocat in Romania (2004). Csaba is also Senior Project Solicitor (Offshore Renewables) at SSE. He has gained experience in the offshore wind industry while acting on commercial and construction matters on Seagreen, the world’s deepest fixed foundation offshore wind farm.
Csaba is the author of “Attribution in International Investment Law” (Kluwer Law International, 2018), the first in-depth study on the use of the notion of attribution in international investment law. He is a former editor of the Investor-State Law Guide (www.investorstatelawguide.com
